Part-time Music Therapist – Board-certified at MacPhail Center for Music

This position provides high quality music therapy services as part of our music therapy program. Hours in which services will be provided may include Monday through Friday day and evening, and Saturday hours during the day.  MacPhail locations include 3 metro sites and community partnership locations. In addition to providing direct services to clients, Music Therapists also provide client assessments, document sessions with clients, and work collaboratively with a team of MacPhail Music Therapists


RESPONSIBLITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide high quality therapeutic services, assessments, treatment planning and documentation and music therapy interventions in both individual and group settings for clients. 
  • Attend MacPhail Music Therapy department and program meetings and training as appropriate. 
  • Adapt music therapy resources, materials, and music therapy interventions specific to the needs of the client or group participants. 
  • Collaborate with MacPhail’s Music Therapists on a variety of department projects including the annual department recital. 
  • Create a positive learning environment through the establishment of good rapport with clients, families, and partnerships, and encouraging open discussion. 
  • Communicate with clients, families and partnerships regarding client’s progress and future directions, scheduling, and related administrative policies. 
  • Expand the client/therapist relationship beyond the partnership, encourage clients to participate in MacPhail opportunities, and develop relationships with peers at MacPhail. 
  • Be an ambassador for MacPhail, representing MacPhail positively to the community, and working to recruit clients/students to MacPhail. 
  • Maintain an accurate schedule in Microsoft Outlook Calendar 
  • Return all email, correspondence, paperwork and phone calls to clients, families, partnerships and MacPhail administration in a timely manner. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Required – Board Certification and Bachelor’s degree in music therapy. Preferred – Master’s Degree in Music Therapy and Neurologic Music Therapy Certification 

Experience: Required – desire to work with various populations. Preferred – 2-4 years of clinical experience. Experience working with children and adults with various diagnoses and of diverse backgrounds. Experience providing services in a group setting, experience developing curriculum. 

Knowledge and Skills: Ability to teach piano, voice and guitar to individuals with various diagnoses. Ability to play and teach additional instruments preferred. Ability to work in diverse settings. Flexibility, comfortable performing in front of a group, strong piano and/or guitar skills, ability to adapt music resources and materials, excellent communication and organization skills, ability to work in a self-directed manner, positive attitude and demeanor, patient and fun personality, and choral conducting skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Excel and Word. Proficient with various music creation, production, and recording applications. 

Physical Demands: Occasional lifting, approx. 25 lbs. Frequent walking, sitting, climbing, stairs, stooping, bending, kneeling.
