Music Therapist in Pediatrics

Description. Hennepin Healthcare’s Inspire Arts program is seeking a contracted music therapist to provide 16 hours a week of music therapy for patients in our hospital’s Pediatrics Department. The music therapist will provide 1-on-1 and family music therapy sessions for hospitalized children and teens. Areas served include Inpatient Pediatrics, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Newborn Intensive Care Unit, and children in our Burn Unit. The position works closely with Child Life Specialists and nursing team to ensure coordination and best care for patients. The music therapist is responsible for collaborating with the Inspire Arts team and Hennepin Healthcare Foundation to continue and expand the existing music therapy program. This position is the second of two part-time, contracted music therapists in the Inspire Arts program.

Experience/Qualities. 

  • Candidate must be a Board Certified Music Therapist, holding the MT-BC credential.
  • 1+ years of experience working in a hospital or medical environment.
  • Experience with and passion for working with children and teens.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences, to include physicians, clinical staff and the non-clinical public.
  • Comfortable working with a variety of people, with sensitivity to cultural values, ethnic differences, and queer/gender identities.
  • Ability to perform work with empathy, patience, creativity, imagination, an openness to new ideas, flexibility, and an understanding of self.
  • Able to work independently with good time management and organizational skills.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish or Somali) is a plus.

Additional Information. This is a contracted position that requires 16 hours a week at $32/hour. Funding for this position is dependent upon philanthropy through Hennepin Healthcare Foundation.
